Mexican Association of Insurance Institutions (MINE) reported that during the year 2022, up to 60,523 vehicles were stolen. In the case of motorcyclesthe number of units stolen was 4 thousand 924 during the year 2022of which 1250 were found; said the illegal had an 18 percent return compared to 2021.
According to AMIS figures, the vehicles stolen during 2022 were as follows: 36,242 private cars; 10,800 pickup trucks; 8 thousand 533 units of heavy equipment and 4 thousand 924 motorcycles. Mexico City, State of Mexico, Guanajuato, Jalisco, Puebla and Veracruz were the states with the highest reported thefts.
What were the most stolen motorcycles in 2022?
During a conference offered on January 19, AMIS presented which were the motorcycle models with the highest reported thefts during 2022: First place went to the Honda 111-250, with 933 theft reports; while the second place was for Italika 111-250, with 916 incidents.
The most stolen motorcycles in 2022, according to AMIS:
- Honda 111-250: 933.
- Italics 111-250: 916.
- Yamaha 111-250: 749.
- Yamaha 50-110: 506.
- Bajaj 111-250: 471.
In the case of violent robberiesin the case of motorcycles, ranged from 26.7 to 49.3 percent, according to AMIS figures. In total, including all types of vehicles, 26,276 units were recovered during the last 12 months, which is 43 percent of all stolen cars.
Among the entities that have had a recovery in the number of vehicle thefts are. Baja California, with 62.12 percent; Campeche, with 47.62 percent; San Luis PotosÃ, with 29.12 percent; Tlaxcala, with 28.78 percent; as well as Zacatecas, with 26.87 percent, refer to AMIS.
How to understand if a motorcycle is stolen?
In the Public Vehicle Registry (foil), people can find out if a motorcycle has been reported stolen, they just have to go to the repuve.gob.mx site and provide the following information: license plate number, vehicle identification number (NIV), certificate of registration and, if applicable, the number of the registration certificate.
People can also call the Repuve service number: 800-737-833-1, during service hours from Monday to Saturday from 09:00 to 19:00; and on Sundays from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Those interested can also go to the office closest to their home.
AMIS has a system to find out if a vehicle has been reported stolen, through reporterobo.amis.com.mx, where they only need to enter the serial number to find out if the unit is stolen. The Executive Secretariat of the National Public Security System (SESNSP) reports that 36,850 motorcycles were stolen nationwide in 2022.
